… the club.

The terrain was built by Kirklees Council in 2013 and the first game took place on Sunday October 13th 2013 and taster sessions took place over the autumn and winter. There was a media feature in the Examiner in October 2013 and finally in February 2014 we achieved critical mass and held an informal meeting in the community room which set a date for the AGM. This took place on 13th April 2014 and that’s when the club really started.

The first away trip to play at the Fox in York was in July; This was followed by our first Open event the same month; we played a match against Heckmondwike in August; our 50th member joined in September and we had 69 members by end of 2014.

There have been many more milestones on the way. We have acquired a shed then a log cabin, some benches to sit on, a Mediterranean garden, a flat terrace with tables and chairs, mains electricity and 5 new lanes to play on. Our membership has hit over 80; some members have played for Yorkshire, we’ve played in a West Yorkshire league, members have played in competitions in London, the Midlands, the Loire valley and in Jersey & Guernsey and in 2022 in Bordeaux. Club members have sat on regional and national committees and have been invited to play in prestigious events. We’ve survived Brexit and Covid so far.

Today we are one of the biggest clubs/terrains in Yorkshire with a range of competitions for members, some Open events and a social calendar. We host sessions for community groups, cubs, WI and others.
