On the other hand…

Roy’s idea of a fundraiser for the Stroke Association went down well. 16 players enjoyed a 3 round melee with the added complication that the first round was played with the wrong hand. Research shows that many Stroke victims lose the use of one of their hands so we all experienced using the other hand to do simple tasks like point within a couple of feet of the coche. Most people have trouble doing this anyway so playig with the other hand was challenging. We have videos of our attempts.

On the way everyone paid £3 to play and there was raffle with serious prizes. Also members baked cakes and buns and these were sold for small donation to the main cause. Overall we raised £80-07.

As to the winners some people had bad days but some had good days. Paul in particular played well winning 13-1, 13-0 and 13-4 making a record points difference of +34. Robin and Malcolm were also on the podium. We’ll do it again next year. Antique petanque medals painted purple – the colour of the Stroke association – were presented and the winner received a handsome trophy also painted purple. If you look very hard at the image you can see these. Trophy will be on display in Club Shed for a few weeks.
